A study covering 759 family-owned dogs was examined – and although the result may only show small increases, it is still statistically proven – and a little reminder to us dog owners that our dogs’ natural hormones are super important for the development and health of our golden nuggets and that this knowledge must be passed on ❤️
A little summary:
For our male dogs:
Neutering before the age of 1 year
—> risk of HD increases from 5% to 10%
—> risk of cruciate ligament rupture increases from 0% to 6%
—> risk of lymph node cancer increases from 3% to 10%
For our bitches:
Neutering before the age of 1 year
—> risk of cruciate ligament rupture increases from 0% to 8%
—> risk of lymph node cancer increases from 2% to 6%
Neutering after the age of 1 year
—> risk of aggressive medullary cancer increases from 2% to 8%
—> risk of skin cancer increases from 0% to 6%
This study has been further supported by Hart et al.,2024, 2020, 2016 as well as a retrospective study by Belanger et al. 2021💪
